Cowboys May Keep Mike Jenkins For Depth At CB

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that the Cowboys aren’t expected to trade CB Mike Jenkins unless they receive a “significant” offer for him.

They will only move Jenkins for a significant pick,” Werder said. “They won’t give him up cheaply.”

Werder adds that some within the Cowboys organization want to keep Jenkins as their No. 4 cornerback.

Pro Football Talkย hasย confirmed that the Cowboys are indeed “shopping” CB Mike Jenkins.

The Dallas Cowboys made the decision to move up for LSUย CB Morris Claiborne, who was largely viewed as the best player at his position in this year’s draft class. Along with Claiborne, the Cowboys also added Brandon Carr during free agency, so the attention now shifts to Mike Jenkins‘ future with the team.

The fact that he’s been hampered with a shoulder injury in recent year’s has to be another concern for the Cowboys, who may look to acquire an additional draft for him some time tomorrow.ย Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasn’t willing to discuss Jenkins in any amount of detail, but he did provide some incite on their decision to move up for Claiborne.

Certainly [our] scouts have said that [Claiborne is] the best they’ve graded for us since Deion [Sanders],” Jones said, per Brandon George of theย Dallas Morning News. “That would include Deion when he came in here, not necessarily going all the way back [to when he was drafted].”

I’m sure we’ll hear more about this situation sometime tomorrow.

  1. May be wise to keep Jenkins, the added QUALITY depth in the secondary would be great! Dallas only played their standard 3-4 defense around 20% of the time last yr in this ‘pass happy’ league (lot of nickle). Let’s not forget this is a contract year for Jenkins as well, tends to bring out the best in players… ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Good riddance!! Cowboys fan here but I’m ready for them to part ways with Mike Jenkins. He showed great promise as a rookie but since then he’s been inconsistent and more than that, he’s been extremely injury prone!! Cowboys won’t get much for him but if they can get a late round pick at least, then it somewhat makes up for 2nd round pick they gave up but it depends on who they draft!!

    • ย I think Jenkins is a beast but he just doesn’t fit in the type of defense we have him playing.
      If you notice his rookie season he did monsterous and that’s because
      they allowed him to play the ball and not the man, ever since they’ve
      been making him play the man and not the ball he’s been sub par, thats just not his style of playing;
      injuries helped none at all as well. He definitely has the skills to be great
      though, i’d HATE to see him go but if he does go i pray he doesnt go
      anywhere in the NFC EAST because i guarantee that WOULD bite us in the
      ass
