Cowboys & Eagles Inquired About Jeremy Maclin Before Signing Other WRs

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that the Cowboys and Eagles both made “preliminary inquiries” about free agent WR Jeremy Maclin before they signed other receivers.

The Eagles added Mike Wallace and the Cowboys signed Allen Hurns and Deonte Thompson contracts in free agency, so it’s unlikely they would be willing to bring in Maclin at this point.

According to Anderson, Maclin is still gauging his market and has no geographical limits in terms of where he would be willing to play. Anderson adds that he’s just looking for the right fit while training in Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Maclin has yet to meet with any prospective teams, so it’s looking like he may have to wait until after the draft to find a new team.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Maclin to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Maclin, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2009. He spent five years with the Eagles before signing a five-year, $55 million contract that included $22.5 million guaranteed with the Chiefs in 2015.

After being released by the Chiefs, Maclin signed him to a two-year, $11 million contract with the Ravens last year. Unfortunately, Baltimore elected to release Maclin last month in a move that created $5 million of available cap space.

In 2017, Maclin appeared in 12 games for the Ravens and caught 40 passes for 440 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 52 receiver out of 118 qualifying players.
