Cowboys Free Up $7M Of Cap Space By Restructuring C Travis Frederick’s Deal

Update:

Todd Archer confirmed Thursday that the Cowboys have officially restructured C Travis Frederick‘s and freed up around $7 million of cap space for the 2018 season.

Archer explains that Dallas turned most of Frederick’s $10 million base salary into a signing bonus for the cap room. This move was needed for the Cowboys to sign LB Joe Thomas and WR Deonte Thompson.

Jane Slater of NFL Media reports that the Cowboys picked up roughly $7.5 million of cap space by recently restructuring the contract of C Travis Frederick.

Dallas was in a tough spot in terms of their salary cap, so moves like this were expected.

Frederick, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2013. He’s entering the third year of his eight-year, $66.56 million that included $26.2 million guaranteed.

Frederick stands to make a base salary of $10 million and $6 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Frederick appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 2 center out of 36 qualifying players.
