Cowboys Will Release DT Dontari Poe & CB Daryl Worley If No Trade Emerges

Per Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys have informed DT Dontari Poe and CB Daryl Worley that they will be released if the team can’t find any trade partners. 

Both players have played major roles on defense so far in 2020 for a Dallas defense that has catastrophically underperformed. 

Poe, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2012. He played out his four-year, $11,320,006 contract when the Chiefs picked up his fifth-year option worth $6.15 million for the 2016 season.

Poe elected to sign a one-year, prove-it contract with the Falcons in 2017. He signed a three-year, $27 million deal with the Panthers in 2018 but Carolina declined his option and he landed in Dallas on a two-year, $10.5 million deal this offseason. 

In 2020, Poe has appeared in seven games for the Cowboy and recorded seven total tackles. Poe was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 85 interior defender out of 119 qualifying players.

Worley, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Panthers back in 2016. The Panthers traded him to the Eagles in return for WR Torrey Smith during the 2018 offseason, but he was cut loose soon after.

The Raiders signed him to a contract in April of 2018 and re-signed him to a one-year, $3.095 million deal as a restricted free agent last offseason. Worley signed with the Cowboys as an unrestricted free agent this past offseason.

In 2020, Worley has appeared in seven games for the Cowboys and recorded 14 total tackles, no sacks or interceptions and one pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 84 cornerback out of 118 qualifying players.
