Defensive Free Agent Options For Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns have already begun the process of revamping their defensive during this years short lived offseason but more changes are likely to come once free agency is finally open for business.

Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that Browns will most likely be looking for upgrades at defensive end and free safety. Grossi mentions that the team will need a defensive despite the fact that they drafted Jabaal Sheard back in April and specifically mentions that Jason Babin is a player to watch. Babin played under Mike Holmgren while in Seattle so there’s some amount of history there.

Another popular option for the Browns to consider is Minnesota Vikings DE Ray Edwards who is considered by many to be the best available defensive lineman in this years class of free agents. One other speculative option could be Mathias Kiwanuka who could give them some versatility because of experience at both defensive end and outside linebacker.

As for the free safety position, Cleveland has some intern options that they could consider. Grossi mentions that T.J. Ward could be a player that could solidify the position but also adds that moving Mike Adams would make some sense. If the Browns are looking to the free agent market, San Francisco 49ers FS Dashon Goldson is player that may get some looks.
