Veteran WR DeSean Jackson mentioned during an appearance on the “Simms & Lefkoe” show that he would like to play for the Rams if things don’t work with the Buccaneers this offseason.
“Worst case scenario if anything I would like to end up in LA, being a Ram,” Jackson said. “Sean McVay, you know we got some connections from when I was in D.C. But we’ll see how it plays out. I got another year in Tampa. We’ll see how it plays out.”
New Buccaneers HC Bruce Arians is expected to try to sell Jackson on remaining with the team, even though he requested a trade last year.
A few weeks ago, Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reported that Jackson is unlikely to return to the team for next season.
“Bruce [Arians], you’ve got your work cut out for you, buddy,” Garafolo said. “From what I gather, DeSean Jackson… So we’re focusing on Antonio Brown, this offseason, I believe this is going to be the No. 2 wide receiver storyline with DeSean Jackson.”
Before that, Josina Anderson of ESPN reported that Jackson wants to move on this offseason and listed the Eagles, Redskins and possibly the Rams as potential landing spots for him.
It’s worth mentioning that Jackson requested a trade before last year’s deadline, but the Buccaneers ultimately held onto him.
Jackson, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Eagles back in 2008. He spent six years with the Eagles before signing a three-year, $24 million contract with the Redskins back in 2014.
After three years with the Redskins, Jackson once again departed in free agency and agreed to a three-year, $35 million contract that includes $20 million guaranteed with the Buccaneers. He stands to make a base salary of $10 million for the 2019 season.
In 2018, Jackson appeared in 12 games for the Buccaneers and caught 41 passes for 774 yards receiving and four touchdowns. He has also rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown.
We’ll have more regarding Jackson as the news is available.
