Dolphins Claim DB Tae Hayes, Place DT Gerald Willis On IR

The Miami Dolphins officially claimed DB Tae Hayes off of waivers from the Jaguars and placed DT Gerald Willis on injured reserve.

Hayes, 22, wound up going undrafted out of Appalachian State back in May. He later signed a three-year, $1.755 million contract with the Jaguars, but was waived coming out of the preseason.

The Jaguars re-signed Hayes to their practice squad before calling him a month later. Jacksonville waived him on Thursday.

In 2019, Hayes appeared in one game for the Jaguars but did not record a tackle.

Willis, 24, wound up going undrafted out of Miami back in May. He later signed a three-year, $1.755 million contract with the Ravens.

However, Baltimore waived Willis coming out of the preseason and he later signed on to the Dolphins’ practice squad. Miami cut him loose a few days later and eventually promoted him to the active roster last month.

During his college career at Florida and Miami, Willis recorded 33 tackles, six tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a recovery and two pass defenses over the course of two seasons and 14 games.
