Armando Salguero reports that the Dolphins are placing rookies OT Eric Smith and RB De’Veon Smith on the physically unable to perform list to open training camp.
Smith, 22, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan this past May. He stands to make base salaries of $465,000 (2017), $555,000 (2018) and $645,000 (2019).
During his four-year college career at Michigan, Smith rushed for 2,235 yards on 495 carries (4.5 YPC) to go along with 38 receptions for 251 yards receiving and 23 total touchdowns over the course of 41 games.
