Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Dolphins are placing star CB Xavien Howard on injured reserve with a knee injury on Tuesday.
According to Rapoport, Howard did not suffer an ACL or MCL injury, but the Dolphins want to be cautious as he is part of their future.
This comes shortly after the Dolphins traded a future pick to the Rams for CB Aqib Talib and a fifth-round pick.
Howard, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2016. He was in the final year of his four-year, $6,128,038 and set to make a base salary of $1,285,641 for the 2019 season when he agreed to a five-year, $76.5 million extension that includes $46 million guaranteed with Miami this offseason.
In 2019, Howard has appeared in five games for the Dolphins and recorded 17 tackles, one interception, and four pass defenses.
