The Dolphins announced on Tuesday they have released veteran DT Akeem Spence and waived LB Chase Allen with an injury designation.
Releasing Spence frees up $3 million in cap space for Miami, per Armando Salguero. He was entering the final year of his deal in 2019
Spence, 27, is a former sixth-round pick by the Buccaneers back in 2013. He finished his four-year, $2,644,424 rookie contract with Tampa Bay before signing a three-year, $10.5 million contract with the Lions in 2017.
The Lions traded Spence to the Dolphins in 2018 for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.
In 2018, Spence appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and recorded 42 tackles and two sacks. Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 105 overall defensive lineman out of 112 qualifying players.
