Miami had a fifth-year option to pick up on Charlton for the 2021 season, but it was highly unlikely they were going to do so.
Charlton, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2017. Dallas made the decision to waive him in September of last year and was claimed by Miami shortly after.
Charlton is entering the final year of his four-year, $10.02 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1.83 million in 2020.
In 2019, Charlton appeared in 10 games and recorded 21 total tackles, three tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 100 overall edge defender out of 107 qualifying players.
