Doug Martin Expected To Play In Week 2

According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is expected to play against the Rams in Week 2, despite his knee injury and being listed as questionable on the injury report.

A report from USA Today, citing unnamed sources, mentioned that Martin had been benched for the blocking mistake and was unrelated to a knee injury.

Head coach Lovie Smith clearly was not happy with this report or the notion that Martin had been benched because of blocking assignment mishap.

“Whose report? Who is that guy? So do any of you guys know him? I don’t either,” Smith said. “So how would he know anything about what I did during the game? No truth to that at all. Doug Martin hurt his knee and we took him out. … I need to meet that ‘sources says’ guy because I don’t know anything about him. Put your name behind it.

Last week, Martin was limited to running for nine yards on nine carries, so he’ll be looking for a bounce-back performance this weekend.

We’ll have more updates regarding Martin’s status as the news is available.
