Eagles Create $5.4M Of Cap Space By Reworking TE Zach Ertz’s Contract

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Eagles created $5.407 million of cap space for the 2018 season by converting $7.21 million of TE Zach Ertz‘s $8 million base salary into a fully guaranteed roster bonus.

It was clear that the Eagles were likely going to have to restructure some contracts this offseason in order to retain some of their free agents such as LB Nigel Bradham, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Ertz, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Eagles back in 2013. He’s entering in the third year of his six-year, $43.64 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed.

Ertz stands to make base salaries of $8 million (2018), $7.5 million (2019), $7.25 million (2020), and $7.75 million (2020).

In 2017, Ertz appeared in 14 games for the Eagles and caught 74 passes for 824 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 tight end out of 71 qualifying players.
