According to Mike Garafolo, Eagles OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai is expected to have a strong market in free agency, with estimates ranging from $8 million to $12 million per year in a new deal.
Vaitai has been a key reserve lineman for Philadelphia the past few seasons, with strong play in stints starting at both left and right tackle. He’s also able to play guard.
The Jets have been mentioned as a potential destination for Vaitai, as current GM Joe Douglas is quite familiar with him from their time together with the Eagles.
However, there’s likely to be multiple suitors for Vaitai given the perpetual need for strong offensive tackle play in the NFL.
Vaitai, 26, was drafted by the Eagles in the fifth round out of TCU in 2016. He signed a four-year deal worth $2.56 million and made a base salary of $720,000 for the 2019 season.
In 2019, Vaitai played in all 16 games for the Eagles and made three starts. He was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 22 offensive tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
We have Vaitai listed in our Top 100 2020 Free Agents list.
