Vaughn McClure of ESPN reports that the Falcons have opened talks regarding a long-term extension for linebacker Deion Jones.
McClure says Atlanta would like to lock up one of their top young talents for years to come and do so before the price tag skyrockets.
Jones was placed on injured reserve after suffering a foot injury in September of last year before being designated to return.
Jones, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Falcons back in 2016. He’s entering in the final year of his four-year, $4.546 million contract and set to make a base salary of $1.07 million for the 2019 season.
In 2018, Jones appeared in six games and recorded 53 tackles, one sack, two interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, a forced fumble and six pass defenses.
We’ll have more regarding Jones as the news is available.
