Falcons Interested In Cowboys FB Keith Smith

D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, citing a person familiar with the situation, reports that the Falcons are interested in Cowboys FB Keith Smith.

Yesterday, Todd Archer of ESPN reported that the Cowboys will not tender an offer to Smith, who was set to be a restricted free agent.

The low-round tender would cost the Cowboys roughly $1.9 million for the 2018 season, which is just too much to allocate to a player who played just 12 percent of the team’s snaps last year.

This means that Smith will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks and will at least have the ability to meet with other interested teams.

Smith, 25, signed on with the Cowboys as an as an undrafted free agent out of San Jose State back in 2014. He was on and off of their practice squad the first few years before converting from linebacker to fullback for the 2016 season.

In 2017, Smith appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and caught five passes for 26 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 13 fullback out of 18 qualifying players.
