The Atlanta Falcons announced Thursday that they’ve re-signed veteran LB Philip Wheeler.
Yesterday, Falcons HC Dan Quinn told reporters at the owners meeting that they were still negotiating a new deal with Wheeler, so it appears as though they were much closer to an agreement than it appeared.
Wheeler, 31, is a former third-round pick of the Colts back in 2008. He spent four years in Indianapolis before signing on with the Raiders as a free agent in 2012.
Wheeler lasted just one year in Oakland before he caught on with the Dolphins after he was cut loose. The Falcons elected to sign him to a contract during the season last year.
In 2015, Wheeler appeared in nine games for the Falcons and recorded 29 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing 146 snaps last year.
