According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, former Ravens first-round DT Haloti Ngata announced his retirement on Instagram following a 13-year NFL career.
“Just a man standing on top of the world with a heart full of gratitude,” Ngata wrote. “Thank you Lord for letting me play the game I love for 13 unforgettable years. Iโm retiring on top. I might be finished playing football, but Iโm holding tight to the friendships, memories and wisdom Iโve gained along the way. ‘Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it.'”
Ngata was a five-time Pro Bowler and won the Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2013. He also played for the Eagles and Lions over the course of his career.
Ngata, 33, is a former first-round pick of the Ravens back in 2006. He spent nine years in Baltimore before he was traded to the Lions in return for a fourth- and fifth-round pick that eventually became Shaq Riddick and Za’Darius Smith.
Ngata played out the final year of a two-year, $12 million contract that included $6 million guaranteed and made a base salary of $5.5 million for the 2017 season. He signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Eagles for 2018.
In 2018, Ngata played 13 games for the Eagles, recording 17 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.
Over the past 13 seasons, Ngata has been the only defensive tackle to record more than 500 tackles, 30 sacks and four interceptions. He will likely be remembered as one of the best defenders in Ravens history and is a candidate for the team’s Ring of Honor.
