Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Falcons called free agent QB Garrett Grayson after placing QB Kurt Benkert on injured reserve earlier in the week.
However, Rapoport says Grayson told the Falcons that he’s “walking away from football at this time, but he appreciated the offer.”
The Falcons ultimately re-signed QB Matt Simms, who is likely to see game action for Atlanta this preseason.
Grayson, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Saints back in 2015. He managed to make the 53-man roster during his rookie season but wound up being among the team’s final roster cuts coming out of the preseason.
The Saints signed him to their practice squad soon after and brought him back on a futures deal. He later signed on to the Falcons’ practice squad before being waived him coming out of the preseason last year.
From there, Grayson signed on to the Broncos’ taxi squad and returned to Denver on a futures contract this past January. The Broncos waived shortly after this year’s draft.
In 2015, Grayson was active for one game for the Saints.
