According to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Inquirer, free agent RB Jay Ajayi is expected to start working out for NFL teams next week.
Ajayi reportedly informed all 32 teams a few weeks ago that he’s fully recovered from the ACL tear he suffered last year. However, he has still yet to visit or tryout for an NFL team.
Injuries have begun to mount at the running back position and with Ajayi being one of the best available options, it would not be surprising to see a market develop for him in the coming weeks if he’s healthy.
Ajayi, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2015. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.5 million contract and made a base salary of $1.9 million for the 2018 season.
The Eagles acquired Ajayi in a trade with the Dolphins that sent a 2018 fourth-round pick to Miami. He has been a free agent since March.
In 2018, Ajayi has appeared in four games for the Eagles and rushed for 184 yards on 45 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 20 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
