Giants Place G Will Hernandez On COVID-19 List, Send Home Other Close Contacts

The Giants announced they received a positive COVID-19 test result for a player and have sent that player home.

Tom Pelissero reports G Will Hernandez is the player and will be placed on the COVID-19 list.

Pelissero reports all but four Giants offensive linemen were sent home. They will participate in meetings virtually but won’t practice.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Giants also sent home OLB coach Bret Bielema and DB coach Jerome Henderson as close contacts.

The team facility remains open, however, and the rest of the team is following their normal practice and meeting schedule.

Pat Leonard indicates the player who tested positive is not among the group that was spotted out in New York City on Friday night not wearing a mask.

A similar situation happened with the Raiders last week but it remains to be seen if there’s enough time for New York’s other close contacts can clear in time to play — assuming no more positive tests.

Pelissero notes none of the Giants’ contacts are considered high-risk, meaning there’s a chance they could return soon.

The Giants are scheduled to play the Buccaneers on Monday night.

We’ll have more on the Giants as the news is available.
