The New York Giants officially released TE Scott Simonson and RB Rod Smith from injured reserve with settlements and also waived OT Victor Salako from injured reserve with a settlement on Tuesday.
Simonson, 27, originally signed on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Assumption College back in 2014. He was unable to make Oakland’s final 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but later signed on to the team’s practice squad.
The Raiders elected to place him on waivers the following year and he later caught on with the Panthers. Simonson was on and off of Carolina’s roster over the next few years but the team declined to tender him a restricted offer in 2018.
Simonson signed on with the Giants in for the 2018 season and returned to New York on a one-year deal this offseason. However, he was placed on injured reserve coming out of the preseason.
In 2018, Simonson appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and caught nine passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.
