The New York Giants confirmed reports that they’ve fired OL coach Mark Colombo on Wednesday.
Giants HC Joe Judge issued the following statement: “We appreciate what Marc has done, but I felt like this move is in the best interest of the team.”
Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Giants have fired offensive line coach Mark Colombo and hiring Dave DeGuglielmo as his replacement.
According to Mike Garofolo, DeGuglielmo has been consulting for teams recently and previously interviewed with the Giants before they hired Colombo.
Giants HC Joe Judge worked with DeGuglielmo in New England so there are obvious ties to the team.
Ian Rapoport mentions that Judge has spent more time working with the offensive line in recent weeks. Rapoport adds that Judge brought up the idea of bringing in DeGuglielmo to consult with Colombo. However, when told of the plan, Colombo did not take it well told Judge as much.
This is when the Giants made the decision to move on.
The Giants’ offensive line has been disappointing this year and first-round pick Andrew Thomas hasn’t shown much development over the first 10 weeks of the season. Although, the unit had looked better in recent weeks.
Football Outsiders have the Giants’ offensive line ranked No. 32 overall in 2020.
