Giants Give HC Tom Coughlin A One-Year Extension

Giants HC Tom Coughlin told reporters on Friday that he has agreed to one-year contract extension, per Jordan Raanan.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Giants added a similar salary of close $7 million per year to Coughlin’s contract.

Giants GM Jerry Reese told reporters following the season that Coughlin would be back for another season.

New York replaced long-time OC Kevin Gilbride with Ben McAdoo a few months ago, so things are clearly changing in New York. Another disappointing season would be hard to survive for Coughlin, but this deal at least prevents him from being a lame-duck coach.

Winning two Super Bowl titles affords a coach a good deal of job security. He has also led the Giants to five playoff appearances and an overall record of 90-70 in his ten years as head coach.
