Giants Pick Up Fifth-Year Options On TE Evan Engram & S Jabrill Peppers

The New York Giants announced Wednesday that they’ve exercised fifth-year options on TE Evan Engram and S Jabrill Peppers

Fifth-year options are guaranteed for injury only and won’t prevent them from negotiating contract extensions with either player in the coming months.

Engram’s option will cost the Giants $6,013,000 for the 2021 season while Peppers’ option is projected to run them $10,089,000.

Engram, 25, is a former first-round pick by the Giants in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Mississippi. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $10,718,304 rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary of $1,926,587 for 2020.

Engram finished last season on the season-ending injured reserve due to a Lisfranc injury.

In 2019, Engram was limited to appearing in eight games and recorded 44 receptions for 467 yards receiving (10.6 YPC) and three touchdowns.

Peppers, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2017. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $10.3 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1.87 million for 2020.

Peppers was traded to New York from Cleveland as part of the Odell Beckham Jr trade.

Peppers finished last season on the injured reserve due to a transverse process fracture, which was initially believed to not be a season-ending condition. (NFLTR)

In 2019, Peppers has appeared in 11 games for the Giants and recorded 76 tackles, an interception returned for a touchdown, three forced fumbles and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 48 overall safety out of 87 qualifying players.
