The Giants have kept the door open to bringing back Halapio after he suffered a torn Achilles while playing for them last year. He’s supposedly back to 100 percent and could compete to start.
Halapio, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2014. He spent just a few months in New England before he was waived at the start of the 2014 regular season.
Halapio had brief stints with the Broncos and Cardinals before returning to the Patriots in 2016. The Giants later signed him to their practice squad and he was on and off of their active roster before winning the starting center job in 2018. Unfortunately he broke his ankle and went on injured reserve.
Halapio re-signed with New York as an exclusive rights free agent in 2019. However, the Giants declined to tender Halapio as a restricted free agent this past offseason.
In 2019, Halapio started 15 games for the Giants at center. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 31 center out of 34 qualifying players.
Holton, 29, wound up signing on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati back in 2016. He managed to make the 53-man roster each of his first two years in Oakland, but was cut loose at the start of the 2018 season and later signed to their practice squad.
The Raiders promoted Holton to their active roster for a short stint, but released him after the season. He signed with the Eagles on a futures deal in early 2019 but was cut loose back in May.
The Steelers signed him shortly after. After being cut and spending a short stint on Pittsburgh’s practice squad, he was added back to the active roster. The Steelers released him this past March.
In 2019, Holton appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers and caught three passes for 21 yards on 15 targets. He also rushed once for nine yards.
