This comes after the news that the Giants are no longer signing veteran CB Ross Cockrell, despite reaching an agreement earlier in the week.
Smith wound up going undrafted out of New Hampshire back in April. He later agreed to a three-year, $2.28 million contract with the Eagles.
However, Smith was placed on waivers by the Eagles last week.
During his college career at UNM, Smith recorded 101 tackles, one sack, five interceptions, two forced fumbles, a recovery and 20 passes defended over the course of two seasons and 22 games.
