According to Ian Rapoport, the relationship between Buccaneers HC Dirk Koetter and QB Jameis Winston “is not in a good place” and there’s some tension between the two.
Rapoport explained that Winston didn’t feel fully supported by the team following his shoulder injury and there are questions about just how predictable the team’s offense is.
Speaking of the offense being predictable, Jenna Laine says she has spoken toย defensive assistants on other teams tell me that Koetter’s offense has been the most predictable they’ve seen all year.
Expectations were high for the Buccaneers entering the season and they haven’t come close to living up to them. This has led to plenty of speculation that Koetter could be out in Tampa Bay after the season with Jon Gruden being a potential target for the Buccaneers.
Koetter, 58, began his NFL coaching career as the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator back in 2007. After five years in Jacksonville, he was hired as the Falcons’ offensive coordinator and later joined Lovie Smith’s staff in the same role for the 2015 season.
The Buccaneers elected to move on from Smith after one season and made the decision to elevate Koetter to head coach.
During his two years as the Buccaneers’ head coach, Koetter has led the team to a record of 13-15 (46.4 percent) and no playoff appearances.
We’ll have more regarding Koetter’s future with the Buccaneers as the news is available.
