Jacksonville Jaguars “Likely” To Select A WR Early In Draft

According to the Florida Times Union, the Jacksonville Jaguars could take a wide receiver early in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The premiere wideout prospect in this year’s draft class, Justin Blackmon, has been widely tipped to fall to the Cleveland Browns with the fourth overall pick or to the St. Louis Rams with the sixth overall pick. Those are both teams that desperately need to bolster their receiving corps, and the Jaguars can be added to that category too as they had the worst passing offense in the league in 2011.

If Blackmon is off the board by the time Jacksonville are on the clock with the seventh overall pick, they will likely wait until day two to draft a receiver. Prospects that could still be available with the Jaguars’ second-round pick include South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffery, Georgia Tech’s Stephen Hill and LSU’s Rueben Randle.

WR Laurent Robinson, who had a breakout season with the Dallas Cowboys last year, signed with Jacksonville in the early stages of free agency. Furthermore, the Jag’s new receivers coach is Jerry Sullivan, who has a reputation as a demanding coach who wants things done his way.
