Jaguars DE Yannick Ngakoue has decided to end his holdout, according to multiple reports, and will rejoin the team for training, despite not having a long-term extension in place.
“We’re happy to have him back and ready to go so we’re excited,” Jaguars coach Doug Marrone told reporters. “He’s ready to go. He’s in great shape and we’re all together.”
Recent indications were that Ngakoue was going to show up this week, so this isn’t a big surprise.
After not reporting for the start of training camp, the Jaguars placed Ngakoue on the did not report list while he was holding out for a new contract.
Ngakoue, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.48 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $834,269 for the 2019 season.
Ngakoue will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2018, Ngakoue appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded eight sacks, an interception, four forced fumbles and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.
