Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk reports that contract negotiations have broken down between the Jaguars and DE Yannick Ngakoue, making him likely to hold out during training camp.
Last month, Ngakoue issued the following statement to Adam Schefter explaining that he is holding out while his contract situation remains unsolved, so this does not come as a surprise.
โI will not be attending minicamp as my contract has not been resolved. I remain committed to Jacksonville, the fans and my teammates. My hope is to be with Jacksonville for years to come.โ
Ngakoue would be a hot commodity on the open market next year, assuming the Jaguars can’t get a long-term deal in place or decline to franchise him.
Ngakoue, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.48 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $834,269 for the 2019 season.
Ngakoue will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2018, Ngakoue appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded eight sacks, an interception, four forced fumbles and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.
We’ll have more regarding the Jaguars and Ngakoue as the news is available.
