According to Ian Rapoport, Jaguars DE Yannick Ngakoue will not report to the start of training camp on Wednesday.
Per Tom Pelissero, the Jaguars offered Ngakoue a short-term deal worth more than $19 million per season with $50 million-plus in the first two seasons before talks broke off yesterday.
Ngakoue was in attendance with the team during voluntary OTA’s this spring, but skipped mandatory minicamp as a part of trying to leverage an extension from the Jaguars.
Ngakoue is entering a contract year as one of the best young pass rushers in the league. He has 29.5 sacks in his first three seasons.
Ngakoue, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.48 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $834,269 for the 2019 season.
Ngakoue will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2018, Ngakoue appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded eight sacks, an interception, four forced fumbles and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.
We’ll have more regarding the Jaguars and Ngakoue as the news is available.
