On Wednesday, Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell confirmed that they will exercise CB Jalen Ramsey‘s fifth-year option for the 2020 season.
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, considering that Ramsey is one of the best young cornerbacks in the NFL.
Adam Schefter reported last year that the Jaguars are likely to consider trading Ramsey this offseason.
A league source told Schefter that he “absolutely” believes the Jaguars will entertain the idea of trading Ramsey and an NFL general manager said he would not be surprised if that’s the route Jacksonville goes with their star cornerback.
Ramsey, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $23.35 million contract and set to make base salaries of $2.57 million and $3.63 million over the final two years of the agreement.
The Jaguars will have to decide on Ramsey’s fifth-year option next year.
In 2018, Ramsey appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded 65 tackles, three interceptions and 13 pass defenses.
