Jamal Adams “Hurt” Jets Listened To Trade Offers, But Would “Love” To Play For Cowboys

Jets S Jamal Adams expressed his frustration to reporters on Wednesday regarding the team listening to trade offers for him before the deadline.

โ€œI hold myself in a high regard. Iโ€™ve done everything theyโ€™ve asked me to do in the three years,โ€ Adams said, via the New York Post. โ€œI didnโ€™t take that lightly. I really didnโ€™t. When I heard from my agent what was going on, it definitely hurt. I hold myself at a high levelโ€ฆ The Rams donโ€™t take calls on Aaron Donald. The Patriots donโ€™t take calls on Tom Brady. Thatโ€™s where I hold myself.โ€

When asked if he wants to be with the Jets long-term or if he will ask for a trade during the offseason, Adams said: โ€œI really donโ€™t know.โ€

As for whether he believes the Jets want him, Adams reiterated: โ€œI donโ€™t know.โ€

Adams was asked if the relationship with Jets can be repaired and responded with: โ€œIโ€™m here right now … Iโ€™m focused on the Miami Dolphins.โ€

Jets GM Joe Douglas mentioned that he believes they clear up the situation simply by meeting, but Adams said he won’t talk to Douglas until he’s ready and he isn’t sure if it will fix anything, per Connor Hughes

Adams did confirm that he wanted to play for the Cowboys, who expressed trade interest in him before yesterday’s deadline.

โ€œThat was one of the teams I told him Iโ€™d love to go to, the Dallas Cowboys. People got to understand, man, I was born and raised in Dallas,” Adams said, per Hughes. “Michael Irvin is like my uncle.โ€

Adams later mentioned he’s happy to be a Jet, but Brian Costello says from listening to him, “it sure does not feel like it.”

Douglas stressed that they were not shopping Adams in trade offers, but Adams is still convinced they shopped him around, per Ralph Vacchiano

Ian Rapoport reported that the Jets wanted a first- and two second-round picks for Adams. The Cowboys were reportedly offering a first-round pick and a late-round selection.

Adams, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2017. He’s in the third year of his four-year contract worth $22,256,084, which includes a signing bonus of $14,326,244.

The contract also has a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2020.

In 2019, Adams has appeared in seven games for the Jets and recorded 39 tackles, one interception, a defensive touchdown, and five pass defenses.
