Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that former Giants CB Janoris Jenkins is likely to join a playoff contender and be back playing as soon as next weekend.
Jenkins is currently on waivers until 4 pm EST Monday and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be claimed.
Schefter mentions that if Jenkins clears waivers, he would revert to the Giants’ injured reserve list since he was waived with an injury designation last week. From there, the Giants will likely waive him from I.R. once his minor ankle injury is healed.
League sources tell Schefter that a playoff contender with a need a corner such as the Texans or Chiefs could place a claim or attempt to sign him once he’s a free agent.
Should a team claim Jenkins, they would owe him two weeks of salary at $597,000 per week for the remainder of the season.
Jenkins, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Rams back in 2012. He spent four years with the Rams before signing a five-year, $62.5 million contract that included $28.8 million guaranteed with the Giants.
Jenkins stands to make base salaries of $10.15 million over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2019, Jenkins appeared in 13 games for the Giants and recorded 54 tackles, four interceptions and 14 pass defenses.
