New St Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher addressed the idea that running backs are a position that’s declining in value by mentioning that’s not how he sees things.
“I haven’t devalued the running back position,” Fisher said, via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “You’re talking to the wrong person. I want as many of them on the roster as you can get.”
There’s been some talk recently that Alabama RB Trent Richardson could be in play for the Rams at #6 overall. That would obviously require the Browns and Buccaeers to go in different directions, but it’s obviously a possibility.
“I think he’s a very, very talented player,” Fisher said. “He doesn’t have a lot of wear-and-tear because it’s been a one-year deal for him (as a feature back). But he’s got great explosion and quickness in the hole and change of direction with the jump cut, and power, and ball security.”
A number of draft analysts have referred to Richardson as the best running back prospect since Adrian Peterson, so if that ends up being the case, he would definitely be worth a Top 10 pick. Not all running backs are devalued, just those who are not one of the top ten players at the position.
We have Richardson going to the Buccaneers in recently updated 2012 NFL Mock Draft.
