Update:
A source tellsย John Middlekauffย that free agent Gย Jon Asamoahย will sign with the Falcons for an annual salary of $4.5 million.
ESPN’s Adam Caplanย reported earlier in day that it would be a “small upset” if the Falcons didn’t sign Asamoahย this offseason.
- Caplan adds that the Jets are still an option forย Asamoah as well.
Atlanta hired former Chiefs’ GM Scott Pioli, so he is as familiar with Asamoah as anyone in the league.
Asamoah, 25, is clearly one of the best interior lineman available in this year’s free agent class. However, we haven’t heard a lot of buzz regarding him before today,ย so it will be interesting to see what kind of contract he’s able to secure in the end.
Pro Football Focusย rated Asamoah as the No. 20 guard in the league last season and decent pass-blocker.
We have him listed as the No. 32 player in ourย Top 50 Free Agents list.

- Wilson adds thatย signing Asamoah won’t be easy for the Falcons as he is likely to command a decent salary in the next few weeks.
Manish Mehta of theย New York Daily Newsย reported earlier in the dayย the Jets are expected to “make a play” for Asamoah in the days leading up to free agency.
- Mehta adds that re-signing veteran G Willie Colon is a “back-burner option” for the Jets right now.
