Connor Hughes reports that the Jets have now turned their attention to pursuing free-agent OL Stefen Wisniewski and G Greg Van Roten.
New York missed out on signing OL Graham Glasgow and G Joe Thuney, so they are getting down to their final free-agent options.
Last month, the Chiefs had reportedly set up a meeting with Wisniewski to discuss an extension, meaning the two sides were unable to reach an agreement. (NFLTR)
The Jets were mentioned as a potential suit for Wisniewski, given that he was with the Eagles with Joe Douglas, who is now New York’s GM.
Wisniewski, 30, is a former second-round pick by the Raiders back in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Penn State. He finished out his rookie contract and signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars in 2015.
After finishing his deal in Jacksonville, Wisniewski signed a one-year deal with the Eagles and returned to Philadelphia on a three-year, $9 million extension. However, Philadelphia declined his team-option for 2019 and re-signed him to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
Philadelphia wound up cutting him loose coming out of the preseason and the Chiefs signed Wisniewski to a contract soon after.
In 2019, Wisniewski appeared in all 11 games for the Chiefs, making two starts. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 16 guard out of 80 qualifying players.
Van Roten, 30, originally signed on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Pennsylvania back in 2012. He was, unfortunately, released coming out of the preseason but later signed on to the Packers’ practice squad.
After the Packers moved on from Van Roten in 2014, he had a brief stint with the Seahawks before eventually signing on with the Jaguars in February of 2017. Unfortunately, Jacksonville cut Van Roten loose after the draft and he eventually signed a one-year contract with the Panthers.
As a restricted free agent, Van Roten instead signed a two-year extension with Carolina ahead of the 2018 season.
In 2019, Van Roten started 11 games for the Panthers at left guard before landing on injured reserve. He was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 23 guard out of 80 qualifying players.
