Jets Preparing To Hire Charley Casserly As Consultant To Aid Potential HC & GM Searches

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Jets owner Woody Johnson is preparing to hire former Texans and Redskins GM Charley Casserly as a consultant in the event they make major changes in the coming weeks.

According to Schefter, HC Rex Ryan and GM John Idzik’s jobs are “very much in jeopardy.”

Schefter mentions that Johnson is “ready to move forward with the football expertise and manpower he would need surrounding him.

Casserly spent 23 years with in Washington and was part of three Super Bowl championships with the franchise. He was fired by Dan Synder after the 1999 season.

Casserly later joined the expansion Houston Texans and while he did bring in some notable players including WR Andre Johnson, LB DeMeco Ryans and DE Mario Williams, the team struggled to win games during his tenure.

Casserly left the organization in June of 2006.

It’s by no means surprising to hear that Ryan and Idzik are likely to be replaced given how poorly the team has played this year.

Jim harbaugh has been mentioned as a potential head coaching candidate for the Jets and I’m sure that list could grow to include several top coordinators like Broncos OC Adam Gase and Patriots OC Josh McDaniels.

We’ll have more updates regarding the Jets and any potential moves as the news is available.
