Jets Release RB Mike Goodson

The Jets announced Wednesday that they have released RB Mike Goodson with the “left squad” designation.

Goodson, 26, had two years remaining on his three-year, $6.9 million contract with base salaries of $1 million and $1.5 million coming his way during this time.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Goodson will free up $720,588 in available cap space.

He has dealt with numerous off-the-field issues since the Jets signed him as a free agent. New York brought in Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson to be their top-two running backs, so it’s not as though they were going to be relying him playing a large role in their offense this season.

Last year, Goodson received a four-game suspension to begin the season and later suffered a torn ACL and MCL, which limited him to appearing in just two games.
