Jets Release TE Neal Sterling

The Jets announced Tuesday they’ve released TE Neal Sterling

Sterling had been dealing with an injury. This is the first roster move for new GM Joe Douglas

Sterling, 27, is a former seventh-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2015. He was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later signed to the team’s practice squad, but he managed to make the 53-man roster in 2017.

Sterling had brief stints with the Jets and Chiefs before New York elected to sign him off the Chiefs’ practice squad. The Jets brought him back on a one-year restricted tender worth $1.907 for the 2018 season.

After Sterling’s contract expired, the Jets elected to bring him back in March as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2018, Sterling appeared in five games and caught six passes for 47 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
