Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Jets have requested permission to interview Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy for their head-coaching job.
- Terez A. Paylor reports that the Buccaneers and Dolphins have also requested interviews with Bieniemy.
The Jets are widely expected to hire an offensive-minded head coach and Bieniemy is considered to be one of the top coordinator candidates this year, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that he could get an interview for the job.
Bieniemy, 49, played 10 seasons in the NFL for the Chargers, Bengals and Eagles before retiring in 1999. His NFL coaching career began in 2006 when he took over as the Vikings’ RBs coach.
The Chiefs hired him for the same position in 2013 and he was later promoted to offensive coordinator this past January.
In 2018, the Chiefs’ offense ranked No. 1 in points scored, No. 1 in total yardage, No. 16 in rushing yards and No. 3 in passing yards.
