Rich Cimini of ESPN writes that the Jets are still open to trading former first-round LB Darron Lee, even though the draft has passed, and he expects the topic to get “a lot of mileage over the next few months.”
New York just declined Lee’s fifth-year option last week and his future with the Jets has been in question for over a year now.
Reports surfaced leading up to and during the draft that Lee could be traded. However, it appears as though no team was willing to meet the Jets’ asking price.
The Jets could hold onto him throughout the summer and see an injury prompts a team to pursue a deal for Lee. Otherwise, they’ll likely wait until the trade deadline to see what they can get for him.
Lee, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2016. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $10.221 million and set to make a base salary of $1.83 million in 2019.
Lee will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2018, Lee appeared 12 games for the Jets and recorded 74 tackles, no sacks, three interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown and five pass defenses.
We’ll have more regarding Lee as the news is available.
