Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports the Jets will most likely pass on applying their franchise tag to NT Sione Pouha but Mehta does mention that a they’re expected to get a long-term deal in place in the coming days.
Pouha is an interesting free agent because he’s coming off of a great season for the Jets but he’s currently 33 years old. Still, New York needs to get him under contract for next season simply because they would be creating a massive hole in the middle of their defense by allowing him to leave.
If they’re unable to come to an agreement in the next few days, Pouha will certainly find plenty of interest on the open market.
