Jets Won’t Fire HC Todd Bowles During Season

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets are not planning to make a coaching change following the team’s terrible 41-10 loss to the Bills on Sunday.

Mehta explains that the makeup of the Jets’ coaching staff isn’t conducive for change, as they don’t have a viable replacement to HC Todd Bowles in the eyes of decision makers.

According to Mehta, some believe that firing Bowles at this point in the year would adversely affect the locker room.

T. Bowles is not the problem,” Jets S Jamal Adams said Sunday. “I’m going to ride with T. Bowles until the end. I don’t care what the fans say. I’m going to support my coach through thick and thin… The coach is not on the field. We got to execute our job.”

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports confirms that any potential changes for the Jets won’t happen until after the season.

However, it’s clear that Bowles’ job status is in question once the team’s season is over and he’ll need to get rookie QB Sam Darnold back on track to have any shot at saving his job.

Bowles, 54, began his NFL coaching career with the Packers back in 1995 as a player personnel staff member before working for a number of teams including the Jets, Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins, Eagles and Cardinals.

The Jets hired Bowles as their head coach for the 2015 season and signed him to an extension last through 2020 last year.

During his four years as Jets’ head coach, Bowles has led the team to a record of 23-35 (39.7 percent) and no playoff appearances.
