Jets & Raiders Expected To Inquire About A Potential Jim Harbaugh Trade

Update:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Raiders and Jets are expected to inquire aboutย 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh’s availability in a trade after the season.

  • Sources tell Schefter that the Raiders are considered the favorite to trade for Harbaugh, but the Jets are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Schefter also mentioned that a contract extension between the 49ers and Harbaugh is still a possibility at some point next year.

The Raiders are a popular option that continues to be connected to Harbaugh as previous reports mentioned that his wife would like to remain in the Bay Area. On top of that, Harbaugh’s coaching career started with the Raiders and owner Mark Davis is said to be targeting a big-name head coach to run the team.

Rex Ryan’s time with the Jets is likely to come to an end once the season has concluded. Harbaugh would give them a head coach who has had success developing quarterbacks in the past, which could be a big selling point for them.

This will be a popular topic to watch over the next few months. We’ll have updates as the news is available.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports 49ers HCย Jim Harbaugh is “all but certain to be coaching elsewhere next season.

La Canfora mentions thatย Harbaugh’s replacement with the 49ers could already be on their coaching staff. As of now, DL coachย Jim Tomsula and DCย Vic Fangio are both viewed as theย top candidates at the top of their list to replaceย Harbaugh.

Should they look outside of the organization, league sources have told La Canfora that Broncos OC Adam Gase is believed to be theirย top external candidate.

Tomsula previously filled in for Mike Singletary after he was fired mid-season and he reportedly has the support of owner Jed York. According to La Canfora,ย Tomsula is “someone the organization would love to keep on staff.

Fangio is expected to receive plenty of interest from other NFL teams during the offseason, but sources have told La Canfora they would really like to keep their defensive staff in place next year.

One interesting note from La Canfora’s article is that OC Greg Roman and TEs coachย Eric Mangini could both follow Harbaugh to his next job.

The 49ers are expected to ask for draftย compensationย in a trade that involvesย Harbaugh.

  1. I’d LOVE for my Raiders to get a solid coach like Harbaugh, but at what price? I suppose coaches are almost as valuable as players, so would a 2nd or 3rd round picks make sense? To me, only if they can work some magic with a high draft pick…… trade down 5-6 spots, get an addt’l second rounder…..still draft Amari Cooper…… give the 49ers a 2nd or 3rd rounder that’s basically “house money” anyway. That would be a win/win in my book
