LaMichael James On The Outs In San Francisco?

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area writes that former second-round pick RB LaMichael James “certainly does not appear to be a good fit with the 49ers, who are built to be a power-running team.

James cryptically tweeted on Thursday; I’d rather they just let me go” and later added that “if I tweet anything it’s always about [football].”

The 49ers had James active for just 10 games in 2013, which had a lot to do with him being slotted as the No. 4 running back on the team’s depth chart. To make matters worse, James played just 28 snaps this season and totaled 59 yards on 12 carries.

According to Maiocco, “the 49ers do not believe James has the kind of blazing speed to succeed as solely an outside runner.

Both Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter remain under contract for the 2014 season, and they also have Marcus Lattimore who is hoping to prove his worth next year, so it’s hard to say if James will ever get a shot to be anything other than a kick returner while in San Francisco.
