Antonio Brown Filing Nine Grievances To Recoup Over $61M From Raiders & Patriots

Update:

Adam Schefter reports that Antonio Brown is poised to file nine grievances and appeals in an attempt to recoup as much as $61-plus million that he believes is owed to him.

According to Schefter, the full list of grievances and appeals includes:

  • Fine appeals with the Oakland Raiders: $215,000
  • Salary guarantees with Oakland: $29 million
  • Signing bonus with Raiders: $1 million
  • Oakland’s unpaid Week 1 salary: $860,000
  • New England Patriots’ salary guarantee: $1 million
  • Patriots signing bonus: $9 million
  • Patriots’ unpaid Week 3 salary: $64,000
  • Patriots’ option year in 2020: $20 million

According to Jason La Canfora, former Patriots WR Antonio Brown‘s grievance with the team over the withheld payment of his $9 million signing bonus is likely to continue into 2020.

Despite tweeting his apparent retirement last week, Brown later reversed course and said he would be open to continuing to play in the NFL.

However, La Canfora reports the general manager’s he’s talked to would be surprised if Brown found a team this season given the NFL’s investigation into rape allegations against Brown and his behavior.

Brown was scheduled to receive the first $4 million installment of his signing bonus last Monday. The Patriots declined to pay Brown, however, because he violated the “reputation and warranty” clause in his contract by failing to disclose the pending civil suit.

Brown, 31, is a former sixth-round pick of the Steelers back in 2010. He was in the third year of his five-year, $72.71 million contract when the Steelers traded him to the Raiders back in March.

The Raiders later signed Brown to a new contract worth $50.125 million and includes $30.125 million guaranteed. However, Oakland made the decision to release Brown a few weeks ago and he later signed a one-year deal worth up to $15 million with the Patriots.

Brown lasted just 11 days in New England.

In 2019, Brown appeared in one game for the Patriots and caught four passes for 56 yards receiving and one touchdown.

We’ll have more regarding Brown as the news is available.
