Latest On Jets’ GM Search

Update:

Adam Schefter reports that the Jets held a second round of interviews with each candidate on Tuesday night, including Joe Douglas, Scott Fitterer, Champ Kelly, and Terry Fontenot.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News also reports that the Jets are “not thrilled” with the perception that the GM job is Douglas’ if he wants it.

According to Mehta, “some” GM candidates have “real concerns” about the instability of the Jets’ ownership.

Mehta adds that Jets’ owner Woody Johnson could return to the franchise by 2020 and will be “signing off” on this hire. In the meantime, Jets executive Christopher Johnson has been involved in the search.

According to Jason La Canfora, every expectation remains that Eagles VP of player personnel Joe Douglas will be hired as the next GM of the Jets.

La Canfora is hearing that the Jets and Douglas are discussing financials over the budget for his potential staff as part of a front office restructuring.

As long as talks don’t fall about apart, La Canfora says that an announcement involving Douglas could come later this week.

Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport says that the Jets are done interviewing candidates for the job and have had a dialogue with all four candidates to learn their financial parameters and what hiring each one would entail.

Reports from Tuesday mentioned that Seahawks executive Scott Fitterer should not be discounted for the Jets’ job, as he was impressive in his interview with the team.

The Jets also interviewed Bears executive Champ Kelly and Saints executive Terry Fontenot for the job.

Douglas began working for the Ravens in their personnel department in 2000 and spent 15 years with the organization.

The Bears hired him as their director of college scouting for the 2015 season.

Douglas spent one year in Chicago before joining the Eagles as their vice president of player personnel the following year.

We’ll have more regarding the Jets’ GM search as the news is available.
