According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Browns are unlikely to hire a search firm for their upcoming head-coaching search this time around. Instead, sources have told Rapoport that GM John Dorsey will likely handle the search himself.
As for some potential candidates to keep an eye on for the Browns, Rapoport lists Lincoln Riley, Josh McDaniels, John DeFilippo and Mike McCarthy.
Regarding McDaniels, Rapoport mentions that he’s open to potential head-coaching opportunities this year, despite pulling out of an agreement with the Colts this past January.
Riley is really the name to watch for Cleveland, given his experienceย working with and developing Baker Mayfield. He recently said that the NFL isn’t a consideration for him at his point in time, but it’s possible that could change in the coming months.
DeFilippo previously worked for the Browns and should one of the topย head-coaching candidates this offseason.
It remains to be seen what will happen with the Packers and McCarthy, but there are ties to Dorsey from their time together in Green Bay.
We’ll have more regarding the Browns’ head-coaching search as the news is available.
